It is one of the famous varieties of samba rice known as jeeraga samba/seeraga samba, which is most popular rice in south India. The rice is very aromatic rice and the grain of the rice is very tiny and it gets its name for its resemblance to Cumin seeds. It has a very distinct taste, fluffs up well when cooked and south Indian biriyanis are made with this rice. It absorbs the flavor of the masala instead of lending the dish a strong flavor the way basmati rice does.
